Dr. Marta Sylla is an interdisciplinary researcher who focuses on ecosystem services valuation, natural capital accounting, and food systems. Marta holds a Ph.D. in environmental engineering which she obtained from Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences in 2020. Her PhD concerned the peri-urban ecosystem services assessment and valuation. In her research, she uses advanced geostatistical methods and indicator design to uncover ecosystem service synergies and trade-offs. Her work focuses on uncovering the value of ecosystem contribution to human well-being. Marta has engaged with government, NGOs, and communities to improve regional planning and food resilience, from piloting the system of environmental-economic accounting in the Kyrgyz Republic to co-initiating community-supported agriculture solutions in Wroclaw. She served as an investigator in national and international scientific grants, such as the European Union’s Horizon 2020 project FoodSHIFT 2030, and currently in the FOODCITYBOOST project. Her academic achievements have been recognized by numerous awards, including prestigious scholarships from the Polish Minister of Education and Science, the Foundation for Polish Science, and The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange.
